About Me:

I grew up locally in Huntington, Indiana a few miles from Roanoke, which is where my family and I live now. My husband, Doug is a Middle and High School Business Teacher in Wabash. We have two little girls who keep us very busy! Emma is 6 and attending Deer Ridge this year as a first grader. She is involved in Dance and Swimming and loves to read! Ava is 2 and her favorite things to do are swim, play with her sister, and be outside. When I am not at school and teaching, I love to spend time with my family, swim, go to the lake, travel, cook, garden, and read.

Educational Background:

In 2001 I graduated from Anderson University, in Anderson, Indiana and received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. For my Master's Degree in Special Education, I studied locally at St. Francis University in Fort Wayne. In my career as an educator I am fortunate to have had experience in several positions and enjoyed them all! I have experience teaching in a Special Education Learning Center (6 years), Response to Intervention Specialist (3 years), 6th Grade Classroom Teacher (1 year). I am excited to be starting my 11th year in education at Deer Ridge this year!

My Thoughts About Education:

I think having a good relationship with students is a key to helping them be successful in school. Building relationships with my students and their families is one of my favorite parts of being a teacher. Teaching students how to read is a passion of mine. I love seeing students discover the joy of being able to read a book by themselves. I firmly believe in being a facilitator of student's own learning. To me this means being supportive without giving students the answer. I employ questioning techniques to help guide students to discover the answers for themselves (based on training in Reuven Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment).
