Meet the SLP

Mrs. Danielle Macias

Mission Statement:

My mission is to help students at Deer Ridge Elementary School reach for the STARS by working with them to improve their ability to communicate effectively within the learning, home, community, and global environments.  My hope is that my work will positively impact each student's daily interactions within and outside of the academic environment.  I believe all children (and adults) need to have positive and meaningful relationships and communication is one of the avenues that we take in order to establish those relationships!

Originally from Wells County, I moved to Indianapolis for a year after high school before moving to Fort Wayne.  I completed my undergraduate degree and received a Purdue degree from what was known as Indiana University - Purdue University Fort Wayne (now, Purdue University Fort Wayne) where I majored in communication sciences & disorders and minored in linguistics and psychology.  I moved to West Lafayette and attended Purdue University for graduate school where I earned a master's degree in speech, language, and hearing sciences.  In addition to completing coursework and clinical placements, I worked as a research lab assistant in the Auditory Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory on Purdue's campus exploring audiovisual processing of speech in school-age students and adults.  Because of my research assistantship in graduate school, I am listed as one of the authors on three published research articles!

I hold the Certificate of Clinical Competency for Speech Language Pathology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association and a Speech Language Pathology License from the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency.  In addition, I hold an Indiana Teacher License.

Family and Hobbies:

When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my family!  I have three children.  We have a dog named Fiona.  I also enjoy crafting and reading books or listening to audiobooks.
